About ACE's

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE's) is defined as any traumatic experience occurring before the age of 18 that falls in one or all of the three categories listed below:

Abuse:

  • Physical

  • Emotional

  • Sexual

Neglect:

  • Physical

  •  Emotional

Dysfunctional Home:

  • Mental Illness

  • Incarceration

  • Domestic Abuse

  • Substance Abuse

  • Divorce

Why is this important?

Although ACE's does not discriminate against, race, gender, sexual orientation, or class, underprivileged people within these categories have less access to resources that help to reverse the side effects of these types of trauma. At the Carrie Mae Williams Center, we take a multi-prong approach to tackling these issues: 1) Take an ACE's Screening 2) Get Your Resilience Score 3) Assess Your Emotional Intelligence 4) Seek Counseling and/or Life Coaching.

If you can understand the alchemy of growing plants, you can understand the journey of self rehabilitation. Just as flowers bloom from seeds that spring forth from the darkness of the soil, cleansing of the rains, healing of the sun, & the breath of fresh air, so too does our purpose once we heal our subconscious wounds.
